On Saturday 20th January, Loughborough became national champions in the up and coming sport of Rock-it-ball at the Leeds based tournament.
Best described as a cross between Dodgeball and Lacrosse the sport originated in 2005 and recently formed it’s own National Governing Body. Ideal for improving physical fitness, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, special awareness and sportsmanship, the University’s Community Sport Development officer Ian Gaunt, originally bought the equipment for children attending the University’s summer camps.
The game’s inventors asked Ian to enter a team into the national competition, which was held at Leeds Met university. The team, made up of 3 Sports Development Centre staff and 4 Sports Science students won 5 of their 6 matches to win the competition, beating a Leeds Met side and other club teams in the process.
